Episode 241

Laughing is Better than Crying

We're calling it. And we're bringing receipts. The Giants are bad. In this Mid-week Review our critics break down just how bad the Giants have been and for how long. And worse, they're still boring.

In the lighting round Matthew goes back to the future, Ben feasts at Taco Bell, and the cocktails get bigger.

Look, we recorded this when things were the most bleak. Before Robbie Ray threw 5 hitless innings. Before the Giants had their first 4+ run inning since June 30th. But we stand by it!

On the cocktail side of things Ben is drinking a Cablegram and Matthew is drinking an HBD. Recipes below.

Cablegram

  • 2 oz Rye Whiskey (100 proof)
  • 3/4 oz Ginger Syrup
  • 1/2 oz Lime Juice
  • Club Soda

Combine the rye, ginger syrup and lime juice in a highball or collins glass with ice. Stir to combine. Top with club soda.

HBD

  • 2 oz Gin
  • 1/2 oz Elderflower Liqueur
  • 3/4 oz Strawberry Syrup
  • 1 oz Lemon Juice
  • 3 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters
  • 1/4 tsp Absinthe for rinse

Prepare a chilled coupe glass by rinsing with absinthe and discarding any extra. Combine all other ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake for 10-12 seconds. Double strain into the prepared glass. Garnish with a lemon twist or strawberry.
