Episode 312

What If They All Get Hot?

#doitforalexthegreat #doitforginny (Also, Matthew named this episode.) Our die-hards break down the series victory in Atlanta including the implosion and demotion of Hayden Birdsong (Kakaw?), Rafeal Devers' break out, and Justin Verlander's first Giants win (smirk). They also lightning round the trade deadline. Ben says outrageous things about Buster Posey, and Posey that cat names a cocktail.

Our new cocktail podcast, The Perfect Sip, is on hiatus but new episodes are in production. (Yeah, it's taking a long time ... life, you know?) If you haven't listened yet, you can catch up here: https://the-perfect-sip.captivate.fm/listen

Speaking of cocktails, today Matthew is drinking a Last Word (Del Santo Version) while Ben is drinking a Meow, Meow, Meow (Knock, Knock, Knock). Guess which one was named by Posey the cat. Recipes below.

Last Word (Del Santo Version)

  • 1 oz High Proof Gin (90-100 proof) or 3/4 oz Navy Strength Gin
  • 3/4 oz Maraschino Liqueur
  • 3/4 oz Luxardo Del Santo Herbal Liqueur
  • 3/4 oz Lime Juice
  • Add all four ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake 10-12 seconds until well-chilled. Double-strain into a chilled coupe glass and garnish with a Luxardo cherry.

Meow, Meow, Meow (Knock, Knock, Knock)

  • 1 1/2 oz Rye Whiskey
  • 1/2 oz Mezcal
  • 1/4 oz Simple Syrup
  • 2 dashes of Angostura bitters
  • Orange twist
  • 3 brandied cherries
  • Put all of your ingredients in a mixing glass with ice, and stir until chilled to your desired level of dilution. Express and orange twist over the glass and drop the twist into the glass. Add a cocktail pick with 3 brandied cherries of your choice on the pick.
